Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina University Senior Volleyball standout Christy Attebery was named to the AVCA All-Southern Region team earlier today. Attebery is only the second player in the history of the Southern Conference to receive this honor, the other was also a Catamount, Regina Brown.
The All-Southern Region team consists of twelve players from the region's Division I conferences. This year's team had 10 representatives from the Southeastern Conference, one from the Sun-Belt Conference and Attebery representing the Southern Conference.
Attebery finished a stellar career as the Southern Conference's all-time leader in kills (2,109) and the Western Carolina all-time leader in digs (1,682). Attebery was a three-time All Southern Conference performer. During her just completed senior season, she lead
the Catamounts to a 21-11 overall record, 15-5 and a second place finish in the Southern Conference. She was 30th in the nation and first in the conference in digs per game (3.87). Additionally she was third in the conference in kills per game (4.28) and tenth in the Southern Conference aces per game (.45).
