Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina seniors Christy Attebery and Bri Milan-Williams were named to the 2001 All-Southern Conference team as selected by the league's coaches.

Attebery (Las Vegas, Nev.) earns the honor for the third consecutive season after setting the SoCon's career kills record this season (2,088) and leading the league in digs (3.94 average). She additionally owns the WCU record with 1,674 career digs, while ranking second in career service aces (157). Attebery was a two-time SoCon Player of the Week. First, she set career-highs versus Appalachian State with five service aces and a .619 attack percentage, while she finished the night without a hitting error for the first time in her career. Attebery finished the week with a double-double versus Winthrop, tallying 21 kills and 16 digs. Second, she recorded 32 digs versus East Tennessee State, just two shy of the WCU record. For the week, she had double-doubles in three of the four matches, including 59 kills and 68 digs.

Milan-Williams (Jensen Beach, Fla.) is making her second appearance on the all-conference team. She additionally was named All-SoCon in 1999 after setting the WCU single-season record with 1,417 assists, while leading the league with her 12.22 assist average. This season, she became Western's all-time assist leader with 4,480, thanks to a 65-assist effort versus the College of Charleston near the season's end. Milan-Williams ended the regular season ranked among the league's top 10 in assists and service aces. She also ended the regular season third on the school's all-time service aces list with 151.

The Western Carolina volleyball team will be in action tonight (Friday) as the third seed in the 2001 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship. The Catamounts will face sixth-seed Davidson at 7:30 on the campus of UNC Greensboro. The semifinals of the SoCon Championship will be Saturday at UNCG with the final being played on Sunday. The winner of the SoCon Championship will earn an automatic bid to the 2001 NCAA Tournament.
