Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball program signs Marlayna Stoetzel for the 2001 season.
Stoetzel plays for Middleton High School and Head Coach Franco Marcos in Middleton, Wis. She was named all-conference as a senior, all-tournament team at the Cardinal Invite and at the Monroe Invite and led her team to the conference championships.
As a senior, Stoetzel recorded a hitting percentage of .261, led the team in kills, digs, and was third in service aces. As a junior she was second on the team in blocks and digs, and third in kills and service aces.
Stoetzel plays for the Wisconsin Power club team and is currently being trained by Amy Lee, a former left handed All-American at the University of Wisconsin.
"Being a lefty, Layna will add an exciting new dimension to our offense. She has the ability to play at both the left and right outside hitting positions," stated Head Coach Michelle Hansen. "Layna has a very high ceiling in terms of potential. WCU volleyball has a very high quality of character in its student-athletes and Layna is a perfect addition to that character. We are very pleased to announce such a perfect fit as the program's first early signee."
