It's a Halloween Spook-tacular This Weekend with Catamount Athletics

Oct. 27, 2005

Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina Athletics Department is offering two "spook-tacular" specials this coming Sunday, October 30, in honor of Halloween. Ghouls, hobgoblins, and ghosts will run rampant both in the Ramsey Center and at the Catamount Athletic Complex this weekend in support of the Catamounts as both the volleyball and soccer teams look to put a hex on Southern Conference competition.

The Volleyball Cats host The Citadel at 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon in the Ramsey Center, looking to complete the seasonal sweep of the Bulldogs. Then at 4:00 pm, the Catamount Soccer team hosts SoCon-leading Davidson at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Soccer Cats were the only team listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" category of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Southeast Regional Rankings, just behind conference rivals UNC Greensboro and Davidson.

At each event, children are encouraged to attend the match dressed in their best Halloween costumes which will allow them free admission at both events. In addition, there will be costume contests at each match with prizes awarded to the best outfit, as well as other fun Halloween games.

The weekend also marks Homecoming at Western Carolina, with a week's worth of festivities culminating on Saturday with Catamount football and volleyball. The gridiron Cats host Elon at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field at 2:00 pm. Later that evening, the volleyball team hosts the College of Charleston in historic Reid Gym at 6:00 pm.
