Catamount Volleyball Begins Piedmont Swing on Friday Night

Oct. 20, 2006

Cullowhee, N.C. - Head coach Stephanie Dragan and the Western Carolina Catamount volleyball team are on the road this weekend visiting the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina to face the UNC Greensboro Spartans tonight (Friday, Oct. 20) and Elon Phoenix on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 6:00 pm.

Earlier this season, Western fell to the Spartans in five tough games, 3-2, one day after falling in straight sets to the Phoenix, 3-0. The loss to UNCG snapped the Catamounts' 17-match winning streak over their in-state rival.

The Catamounts are led by junior Meredith Harmon and senior Heather Koontz, each averaging over two and a half kills per game with Harmon leading the team with 2.88 kills per game.

Freshman Liz Rondone continues to make a strong push for the Southern Conference's Freshman of the Year honor, ranking 13th this week in digs per game (5.97). The Bloomington, Ill., native leads the team and re-writes her own single-season record in the WCU Record Book with each dig she records from this point forward.
