Cochran now ranks sixth all-time in career digs with 1,277.

Western Carolina co-captain Morgan Cochran was named Southern Conference Defense Player of the Week Monday for her play against Appalachian State and Davidson. Furman's Chandler Ambrester and Jo Wilks were named Offense Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively. The selections are made by the conference office.
Cochran, a junior libero, recorded 58 digs in eight sets last week for the Catamounts. She led WCU with over 20 digs in every match last weekend, including matching her career-high of 35 digs against rival Appalachian State. The Lakeland, Fla. native averaged 7.67 digs per set and moved into sixth place in WCU history in career-digs with 1,277. Cochran also leads the Southern Conference in digs in league play and last week was ranked 36th in the country among 323 Division I schools before the weekend.
As a team, the Catamounts moved into first play in the SoCon in digs, averaging 17.93 digs per set, good enough to be ranked 30th in the country going into last weekend's matches. In league play, the average jumps up to 22.57 digs per set.
Western Carolina travels to the Palmetto State this weekend to take on Furman and Wofford. Both matches are at 6:00 p.m. with the Catamounts taking on the Paladins Friday, squaring off against Wofford on Saturday.
