Catamounts Host Lady Mocs Tuesday Night in Volleyball Action
Sept. 27, 2005 Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina (2-12, 1-2 SoCon) hosts Chattanooga (7-7, 2-0 SoCon) in volleyball action tonight (Tuesday) at 7:00 pm in the Ramsey Center. Admission is $3.00 for adults, $1.00 for children, and free to WCU students with their ID card. Fans who can't make it to Cullowhee for the match can follow it LIVE on GameTracker.
THE SERIES: Western Carolina leads the all-time series with Chattanooga, 32-22, including having won the past two meetings with the Lady Mocs and nine of the last 10 meetings in the series ... WCU's last home loss to Chattanooga came in 1998, a 3-2 defeat in Reid Gym ... Western defeated UTC in Cullowhee a year ago, rallying after dropping the first game for a 3-1 victory ... The Cats and Lady Mocs have championship history, as well ... All-time, Western has claimed four Southern Conference regular season championships and three tournament titles -- Chattanooga has two regular season championships and has claimed the SoCon tournament four times ... Western and Chattanooga met in both the 1997 and 1998 SoCon Championship match, with the Lady Mocs winning the both matches for the title. DROPPING BACK: Western Carolina came within two points of scoring its second Southern Conference victory on Saturday afternoon (9/24), falling in five tough games to the Davidson Wildcats, 3-2 (30-21, 26-30, 37-30, 31-29, 15-5) in Reid Gym. Despite the loss, Western sophomore Danielle Spitzer set a career high with 18 kills to lead the Catamounts, who dropped just their second match out of the last 12 played in Reid. Spitzer added a trio of solo blocks, with Meredith Harmon accounting for three total blocks as the Catamounts out-blocked Davidson, 8-to-4. HANGING TOUGH: Although the Catamounts have yet to scratch out a victory in Cullowhee, Western is clawing its way through home matches ... Of the three home matches before tonight, the Cats have taken two to five-games ... WCU stood on the threshold of knocking off Davidson in four, serving match point twice before the Wildcats were able to sideout and rally. STATISTICALLY SPEAKING: SoCon Stats as of 9/27/05 Junior Meghan Boyle ranks 9th in Assists (8.28 a/gm) and junior Kate Willard ranks 8th in Digs (3.83 d/gm) ... Western ranks 6th in digs and 7th in attack percentage among the Southern Conference team leaders.
