Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina senior Christy Attebery broke the WCU record for career digs in the teams' 3-0 victory over Appalachian State Tuesday night.
Attebery recorded 11 digs in the match to give her a total of 1,364. The record was previously held by Crystal Sullivan 1983-86 with 1,357 digs.
Earlier this season, the Lady Cats returned to Attebery's hometown of Las Vegas, Nev., where they competed in the UNLV Tournament. While there, Attebery was named to the all-tournament team, as she tallied 34 kills (3.78 per game) and 34 digs.
Attebery also holds the school's career kills record with a total of 1,774. In Southern Conference standings, Attebery is in the top ten in kills per game (3.69), hitting percentage versus conference opponents (.364) and kills per game versus conference opponents (4.80). Along with career records, Attebery holds the WCU single-season record for kills (643) and kills per game (5.32), as well as ranking second in single-season digs (479).
The 2000 All-Southern Conference team and all-tournament team member, was named to the SoCon Coaches Preseason All-League Team for the 2001 season.
