Western Carolina Volleyball Hosts Catamount Clash VI

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball hosts the sixth annual Catamount Clash on Friday and Saturday welcoming opponents UNC Wilmington, North Carolina A&T, Presbyterian College and Southern Conference foe The Citadel.

The Catamounts will get an early start on conference play when the club plays The Citadel at 7:30 p.m. Friday to close out the first day of action at the Ramsey Center. The Citadel enters the tournament with a record of 1-6, having defeated Charleston Southern 3-2 on August 28.

Western Carolina enters the tournament with a 3-8 record. The Catamounts dropped their opening home match 3-1 to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday and is currently looking to snap a five-match losing streak. Western Carolina has won one of the three tournaments the team has played so far this season, taking the tournament crown at the UNC Asheville Classic over Labor Day weekend.

Presbyterian College is the only team entering the tournament with a winning record, sporting a 7-4 mark and enjoying a seven-match winning streak. The Blue Hose dropped their first four matches of the season and have won their last seven.

UNC-Wilmington enters the tournament with a 3-8 record and North Carolina A&T is looking for its first win of the season with an 0-11 record. The Catamounts are 14-3 against The Citadel, are a perfect 6-0 against North Carolina A&T and trail UNC Wilmington 6-7. It will be the first meeting between the Catamounts and Presbyterian College.

Western Carolina is led by senior Meredith Harmon who leads the club with 103 kills and is averaging 2.94 kills per game. Freshman Ali Rook is a close second with 86 kills and is averaging 2.46 kills per game.

The Catamounts open the tournament with UNC Wilmington at 2:30 p.m. on Friday followed by the SoCon match-up with The Citadel at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Western Carolina faces Presbyterian at 12:30 p.m. and North Carolina A&T at 5:30 p.m.
