CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball will travel to nearby Asheville to compete in the UNC Asheville Classic Friday and Saturday. The Catamounts open the tournament with in-state rival and host UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. Friday. The match will be video streamed off the Big South website (bigsouthsports.com) for a single-game fee of $4.99.
The Catamounts are coming off a tough road trip at the SMU Invitational. Though the club dropped three hard-fought matches, Head Coach Stephanie Dragan saw a lot of positives in the team's weekend trip to Dallas.
Most notably was the phenomenal play of freshman outside hitter Ali Rook. The Naperville, Ill. native was named to the SMU Invitational All-Tournament team after collecting 28 kills in three matches and recording the first double-double of her career against SMU with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Western Carolina holds a 22-16 advantage over UNC Asheville but has lost the last three meetings. On Saturday the Catamounts will face Kennesaw State and USC Upstate. Western Carolina played Kennesaw State for the first time last season, defeating the Owls 3-1. The Catamounts face USC Upstate for the first time.
