The Western Carolina volleyball team opened the 2013 season with its first practices Thursday in preparation for the first match on August 30.
The Catamounts are scheduled for 14 practices, including five two-a-days sessions, Thursday, August 8 through Saturday, August 17. The team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday, August 17 at 6 p.m. that is open to the public. Once classes begin August 19, WCU shifts to one practice a day before the season and home opener in the WCU Invitational against Wright State August 30 as part of the five-team two-day tournament.
Western Carolina returns all six starters, 85 percent of the offense and its starting libero from the 2012 team that went 8-23 overall and 4-12 in the Southern Conference. At the libero position Morgan Cochran finished the season ranked second in the SoCon with 5.53 digs per set average, and middle blocker Addy George finished fourth in the conference rankings with .97 blocks per set.
