The day began pretty well as we started tournament play beating a team from Maribor, Slovenia in two sets out of three. Afterwards we had a couple of hours to do as we pleased so the majority of us went into the city center in Pula, Croatia where we ran into a bit of bus trouble. After being left at the curb and then taking the wrong one it turned out to be a longer outing than expected.
However overlooking the troubles, we all had a nice time looking through the authentic jewelry and passing by the many gelato stands. The best part of the city center is the roman architecture that still stands!
We sat at a café next to the Arch of the Sergii, passed by the Porta Gemina, and had the opening ceremonies in front of the Temple of Roma and Augustus. There is a level of history here that the United States just can't supply because of its youth.
Later in the day we played our second match in our pool against a team from Montenegro. Their strong block and tough serves were enough to take us to a third set that we couldn't end up on top. We now have a better idea of the teams we are up against and still have a tournament win still within reach.
