CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina Head Volleyball Coach Stephanie Dragan announced the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent (NLI) for next season. Libero Liz McLauchlin (Tallahassee, Fla./South Florida Community College), setter Carly Cash (Oxford, N.C./JF Webb High School) and outside hitter La Tonia Cunnigham (Huntersville, N.C./North Mecklenberg High School) will bring needed depth to Dragan's squad next season.
"Adding Liz, Carly and La Tonia to our roster gives us depth and makes us stronger as a team," Dragan said. "We are all excited about preseason and can not wait to get started."
McLauchlin is a 5-4 libero who is transferring from South Florida Community College. She attended South Florida Community College for two years and was named to the Academic Sun Coast Conference team.
"Liz will bring us some needed experience in the back court," Dragan said. "She excelled in the junior college ranks and I expect the same from her as a Catamount. She will challenge Lizzy for the libero position and both will improve through competition."
Cash is a 5-9 setter from JF Webb High School in Oxford, N.C. She is a three-time all-conference selection and helped lead her team to the two conference championships as well as runner-up in the state championships her senior year.
"Carly was a nice find, she has great hands," Dragan said. "Carly is a scrappy defensive player and is fun to watch. Her jump float serve will be a different look for our opponents."
Cunnigham is a 6-1 middle/outside hitter from North Mecklenberg High School. She was a middle hitter in high school and this year changed to the outside position for her club team.
"La Tonia is a great addition to our roster," Dragan said. "She does not have a lot of competitive volleyball experience and is extremely raw. La Tonia's abilities are still untapped and I am very excited to develop her into an incredible volleyball player. She is a great athlete and her best volleyball is still in front of her."
