Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina announced today that Felicity Ribalkin has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Catamount volleyball team in the fall. Ribalkin, a six-foot outside hitter from North Vancouver, British Columbia, who currently holds a 3.65 GPA, will graduate from Handsworth Secondary School this year. She played her junior and senior years for Handsworth (prior to this she played for Saint Thomas Aquinas, a semi private Catholic High School) as well as five years with the British Columbia Olympic club program.

Her honors include being named team captain for her senior season at Handsworth and was also the team captain all five years on her club teams. Her high school team was the Vancouver and District Champions all four years, as well as North Shore Champions during her freshman, junior and senior seasons, and they placed fifth at the Provincial Championships during her senior year. She was also named to the North Shore All-Star First Team her senior year. Ribalkin has been on the academic honor roll her freshman through junior years (senior year not yet completed).

In 2001, at the age of 17, Ribalkin placed third in the "Queen of the Beach" Tournament, which is a very prestigious beach tournament for which some of the competitors are on the professional circuit. She has also been practicing with the Junior Team of the University of British Columbia this past year and has been invited to go with the team to Canada's National Championships. She will also compete with her club team at Nationals this year.

"We're very excited to have Felicity join us all the way from Vancouver," said volleyball head coach Michelle Hansen. "I believe there's a mutual admiration between Felicity and our program. She's a fierce competitor that plays with a lot of heart both in the front row and back row. We're looking for her to be a great leader on our team in the future."

Ribalkin plans to major in business upon arriving at Western. In addition to playing volleyball, she has competed in rowing, ringette, and horseback riding among many others. And as far as her most thrilling moment as a volleyball player in her career, she claims signing with WCU to be on the top of her list.
