Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's volleyball team hosted the third annual Spring Fling, Saturday, March 3. Participating teams were UNC Asheville, East Tennessee State and Wofford.
The Lady Cats entered the finals with an undefeated record in the four-team tournament. They defeated Southern Conference opponent East Tennessee State 27-30, 30-19 and 15-9 for the championship. Wofford defeated UNC Asheville 30-28 and 30-17 for a third place finish.
The tournament was played under the international rules that will be played for the 2001 season. International rules are best of five games, rally scoring to 30 with the fifth game to 15.
WCU will be competing in two other tournaments this spring. March 31 they travel to the University of Tennessee featuring teams such as Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. April 14 the Lady Cats will travel to Wake Forest. That tournament will also host Duke, Clemson, Coastal Carolina and Southern Conference rival Appalachian State.
