Cullowhee, NC- The Western Carolina volleyball team finished the 2002 season ranked sixth out of the top 15 teams in the nation in digs per game. The Cats played 124 games and had 2,432 digs for an average of 19.61 per game for the 2002 season.

Team co-captain Shari Harder led the squad with a total of 405 digs during the season to rank 10th in the SoCon, which helped Western rank among the best in the nation. WCU held its opponents to 2,243 digs in their 124 games.

Another key aspect to the season was that the team did not have any seniors, meaning that the Cats will be returning a core group from the 2002 squad. The team ranks in the top five in the league in almost every statical category, including ranking second in opponent hitting percentage, only allowing their opponents to hit 16.3 percent, and in blocks with 273.5 total for 2.21 per game.
