WCU enters after dropping five of its last season matches, but picked up a 3-0 sweep over The Citadel in the regular season finale on November 16. The Catamounts opened the season on one of the best starts in program history as WCU accumulated 18 total wins and eight conference wins. The 18-win mark was the highest since the 2002 team collected 22 wins; at 18-12 overall it was also the first time since 2002 WCU had a winning season - the 18th time in program history. WCU's eight SoCon wins are the highest since the squad's 8-8 record in 2011, which is the last time the Catamounts appeared in the conference championship tournament. The Purple & Gold appeared in the SoCon tournament for 23 straight years, 1983-2006, then not again until the 2011 team earned No. 3 seed in the North Division.

The Catamounts will be led by junior outside hitter Jordan Timmermann, who was named Second Team All-Southern Conference by the league's coaches, and by senior libero Morgan Cochran, who has led the NCAA in digs per set for majority of the season.

Timmermann led the Catamounts with a 3.38 kills per set average -- 365 total kills -- and was third on the team with .221 hitting percentage. She also carried a 2.04 digs per set average and a 0.59 blocks per set average on the season. Her six double-doubles placed her third on the team.

Cochran averages a conference leading 6.13 digs per second and is currently second in the NCAA in digs per set. She is currently the eighth active NCAA career leader in digs with 2,146 digs, just seven shy of breaking the WCU all-time record of 2,152 held by Liz Rondone. Her career mark of 5.10 digs per set is highest digs per set average in WCU history and ranks her 11th on the NCAA active career digs per set list.

WCU is the league leader in blocks averaging 2.34 per game, with Addy George the individual blocks leader at 1.30 per game. Led by Cochran's 6.13 digs per set mark, WCU also leads the SoCon in digs per set at 18.27 per game.
