Final Stats

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Western Carolina volleyball team fell to Southern Conference opponent Wofford, 3-1, with scores of 30-23, 30-26, 23-30, and 32-30.

Wofford took control early in game one, building an 18-12 lead and never looking back. The Catamounts would draw no nearer than a deficit of four before falling, 30-23.

Game two was much closer, but the Lady Terriers again led throughout most of the game. After a 16-16 tie, Wofford built a three-point lead, and would remain within a point of that margin for the remainder of the contest, winning 30-26.

The third contest was the most even in the early-going. The score was tied seven ties early, the last at 11-11. From that point, Wofford took a slim lead, going ahead 17-15. The Catamounts battled back, scoring the next four points straight, to lead 19-17. They were able to build from there, playing to a strong finish with the 30-23 victory sending the match to a fourth game.

Western Carolina looked to have the momentum entering game four, and held a lead for much of the contest. After falling behind 5-4, Wofford would not lead again until going up, 21-20. The Lady Terriers built a small lead, but the Catamounts rallied to tie the game at 26, and again at 27. Wofford's Molly Bushong made a tip to up the lead to one again at 28-27. Western Carolina's Stefanie Peters made a kill to tie it up. A Catamount attack error on the next possession gave Wofford the slim lead once more. Peters made a strong block on the next play to deadlock the score at 29. Duke made a kill for Wofford, and Peters answered yet again with a kill for Western Carolina. The score was tied, 30-30. A Catamount service error gave the Lady Terriers the one point lead, and a kill by Duke became the match point, as Wofford pulled ahead for the final time, 32-20.

The Catamounts were led by Christy Atterbery, who came up with 19 kills and 14 digs on the contest. She was supported by a strong game from Peters, who finished with 14 kills and 11 digs, and Pamela Stein, who had 10 kills and 12 digs. Setter Bri Milan-Williams finished the evening with 55 assists and 11 digs.
