CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-23, 0-12 SoCon) dropped a tight match with rival Appalachian State (11-15, 7-5) 3-1 Wednesday in the Ramsey Center.

Western Carolina took the first set after battling for the game when it is tied at 23. The Catamounts took the lead off a kill by Kara Lynzee Brooks and then took the set off an Appalachian State attack error.

Appalachian State took the last three sets to take the match. The Mountaineers were tough in the second set taking a 21-10 lead and then proceeded to close it out going 4-4 in the final points.

After the break, the Mountaineers hit .217 in the third set and WCU has just a .100. In the final set, the Catamounts pulled within two, 20-18, before going in a 5-2 run to close out the match.

Junior Kara Lynzee Brooks lead Western Carolina with 15 kills and was the only Catamount player to have double figure kills. Setter Katie Hennessey had a double double with 36 assists and 13 digs. Fellow senior Liz Rondone had 24 digs.

Western Carolina will be playing at Chattanooga on Saturday at 1 p.m.
