Western Carolina Volleyball Falls to Samford 3-0

Oct. 5, 2008

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-14, 1-3 SoCon) fell 3-0 (15, 25, 22-25, 16-25) to new Southern Conference member Samford (15-2, 4-0 SoCon) Sunday at Pete Hanna Center.

The Catamounts played the Bulldogs tough in the second game. Down 17-22, Western Carolina went on a 5-1 run to pull within one point, 23-22. The Catamount run was thanks in part to a pair of kills by freshman Rebecca Stoltz. A kill by Samford's Sara Sears and a Catamount attack error ended Western Carolina's comeback attempt.

Freshman Carrie Minogue led the team with six kills committing just one error on 10 attempts. Junior Liz Rondone's countdown to the career digs record continues as she added 12 more to her total and now needs just 46 to break the school records for digs in a career.

Western Carolina will travel to Greenville, S.C. Wednesday for a mid-week Southern Conference match-up with Furman. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
