Western Carolina Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Georgia Southern

Sept. 30, 2007

Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. - Western Carolina volleyball (7-13, 2-3 SoCon) had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 3-0 (30-18, 30-16, 30-25) loss to Georgia Southern (5-13, 2-4 SoCon) Sunday.

The Catamounts squad showed its youthfulness unable to sustain the momentum the squad had built from its previous two wins. Western Carolina has just one senior on the squad and two juniors courtesy of junior college transfers.

"Our freshmen played like freshmen today and we really showed our youtfulness," said Head Coach Stephanie Dragan. "We have to learn how to maintain our momentum when we go on the road and not just be a team who plays well at home."

Western Carolina had just a .039 hitting percentage in the match in contrast to Georgia Southern's .278. The Catamounts also didn't record a service ace in the match.

Freshman Jelena Jakovljevic led the Catamounts with eight kills and three digs. Fellow freshman Ali Rook had seven kills and two block assists.

Western Carolina continues its road swing at Furman on Friday. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
