Western Carolina Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Host Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. - Western Carolina volleyball (3-2) fell 3-0 (23-25, 13-25, 18-25) Friday, to host Illinois State (3-2), in the first match of the Redbird Classic.

The Catamounts played it close in game one, as in the final points of the game as the two teams were tied four times. Down 22-21, Western Carolina tied it for the final time when freshman Carrie Minogue registered a kill off an assist by Katie Hennessey. Illinois State reclaimed the lead off Catamount miscue and won two of the final three points to secure game one.

Western Carolina had a .158 attack percentage in game one but in games two and three the attack percentage dropped as Illinois State's continued to rise, as the Redbirds had a scorching .500 in game two. The Catamounts committed just three more errors then Illinois State, 17 to 14, but had just 24 kills to Illinois State's 52.

Freshman Brittany Lysik led the Catamounts in both digs (11) and kills (7) while Katie Hennessey added 21 assists. Junior Amanda Kerr had five kills.

Western Carolina continues play in the Redbird Classic on Saturday facing Western Michigan at 10 a.m. and Oakland at 5 p.m.
