Nead spent 2013 on the sidelines with Eckerd College in Florida
The 2014 season saw the Catamounts earn their first Southern Conference Tournament win since 2005 and an overall record of 17-15. Nead helped guide a pair of seniors to become the first Catamount teammates to earn all-conference honors in the same season since 2001. He also saw two Catamounts become the ninth and tenth student-athletes in program history to achieve 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
During the 2015 season, Nead helped guide Jo-Leigh VerVelde to the top of the NCAA list for triple-doubles in a season with 10. He also saw Cristina Nazario become just the seventh Catamount in program history to achieve 3,000 career assists.
Nead came to Cullowhee with over 13 years of playing experience throughout varsity high school volleyball, men's club, collegiate club and continued play in indoor and beach adult tournaments. Most recently, Nead worked on staff at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., as an assistant coach.
During his time as an assistant coach at Eckerd College, Nead was primarily responsible for in-game statistics, high school and middle school outreach, summer and satellite camps, and overseeing the physical development of student-athletes through strength & conditioning. Nead worked with a pair of All-America selections and three players that earned all-conference accolades. Last season, Eckerd posted a 20-10 season with a second-place finish in the Sunshine State Conference and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA regional.
Prior to his stint at Eckerd, Nead worked at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa as head volleyball coach from 2009 through 2013. In his three years there, he compiled a 43-31 overall record. In 2012, he guided his team to a record 19-win season, a second-place finish in the District 3A regular season and had three athletes earn All-County Honorable Mention honors.
As a club volleyball head coach, Nead worked for the Club Storm of Tampa from 2010 to 2012 and Tampa United Volleyball Academy in 2013. In his club coaching roles, he amassed a 126-65 overall record. His 2011 13U Club Storm team of Tampa won three-straight tournaments, and claimed its first Florida Regional Tournament title in club history. The 2013 16 United team won the MAV Explosion and Silver Open Bracket at the Tampa Slam under his coaching.
A 2010 graduate of the University of South Florida where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in business management, Nead played three years on the men's club volleyball team. He earned his Masters of Education and Coaching Education from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, in 2013.
