Nazario Leads WCU Volleyball to Sweep of Mercer

Cristina Nazario earned her third double-double of the season in the 3-0 win.

2008 (Junior): Played in 28 matches, sitting out four due to an injury ... Broke the school record for digs in a career with 1,789, snapping a record set by Christy Attebery who had 1,682 ... Also ranked first for digs per game in a career with 5.31 ... Led the team in 2008 with 439 digs averaging 4.53 digs per game.

2007 (Sophomore): Played in all 33 matches ... Went over 1,000 digs and currently ranks fourth in the Catamount record books for digs in a career with 1,350 ... She ranks first in the Western Carolina record books for digs per game with 5.62 ... Led the team with 580 digs which ranks second for digs in a single-season ... Ranked second on the team in set assists with 127 ... Wrote a blog for the NCAA's Double-A Zone.

2006 (Freshman): Ended the season ranked 15th in the nation with 770 digs, which also ranked her in top-20 in the WCU career record books, averaging 5.97 digs per game, ranking second in the conference and leading the team ... Snapped the Western Carolina University single-season record for digs, breaking the previous record of 497 set by Katie Willard ... Named to the CVU (Collegiate Volleyball Update) Rising Star List, recognizing freshmen who have bright futures ahead ... Played in 129 games, starting all 36 matches ... Recorded a career-high 41 digs (High Point, Sept. 15) which broke the school record for digs in a match ... Notched double digit digs in 35 of 36 matches ... Had 20 or more digs in 20 matches and 30 or more digs in six matches ... Joined the 30 Dig Club and is the first player in school history to record 40 or more digs ... Named to the Big Orange Bash and Catamount Clash All-Tournament Teams.

High School: Was a three-year member of the varsity volleyball team at Central Catholic HS ... Served as a team captain for her senior year when she was a unanimous selection to the first team Corn Belt All-Conference team, as well as named team MVP ... During her final season, garnered accolades such as all-tournament team and was tabbed the WJBC McLean County High School Athlete of the Week on October 24 ... Was named to the Top 48 Defensive Dandies, or Dandy Lions, meaning she has excelled at every position on the court by ... In `04 led the Bloomington/Normal Intercity in digs with 269, averaging 3.4 per game as a right side hitter and was also lethal with her jump serve, recording 161 service points with 54 aces ... Also played high school softball both as a freshman and sophomore, while boasting a 3.8 GPA and was a three-year member of the National Honor Society ... Played for the Illini Elite volleyball club team each of the past three seasons, posting a second-place finish in the GLC Pre-National tournament in 2004 and five, third-place showings since 2003 ... In 2005, finished third in the Asics Junior National Volleyball Championship in Chicago and also finished as the second runner-up in the Junior Olympic National Volleyball Championship National Division.
