Sjokvist and Hanson Receive ITA Academic Honors

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis players Susanna Sjokvist and Trish Hanson received All-Academic Honors as released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

In order for a student-athlete to be named a Scholar Athlete the player must be at least a sophomore and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Sjokvist, a senior from Gustafs, Sweden, has a 3.94 GPA. She and double's partner Emily Turke won the Brown Bracket doubles title at the East Tennessee Fall Tournament on September 23.

Hanson, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga. has a 3.71 GPA. She and doubles partner Tessie Salame defended their doubles title in the Gold Bracket at the East Tennessee Fall Tournament.

The Western Carolina women's tennis team will round out fall play on October 26-28 when the squad competes in a tournament hosted by the University of South Carolina.
