Cullowhee, N.C. -
Due to Hurricane Ivan, the Western Carolina volleyball, soccer and tennis teams have all cancelled their weekend plans, all of which were scheduled to play on the road. However, as of Thursday at Noon (ET), the WCU football and cross country teams are currently on schedule for Saturday (Sept. 18) with the football team playing at Alabama and the men's and women's cross country team at Clemson.
The volleyball team was set to play in a two-day, four-team tournament at Central Florida (Orlando), but the format changed when South Alabama was forced to cancel. On Thursday, the threat of inclement weather in regards to Western Carolina's travel arrangements forced the Catamounts to cancel the trip as well.
The soccer team had its match with South Florida scheduled for today (Sept. 16) cancelled. Like the volleyball team, Western's travel arrangements, driving through the inclement weather, forced the Catamounts to cancel its match with Stetson for this weekend as well.
The Catamount tennis team's trip to the ETSU Fall Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn., has been postponed. The event will be rescheduled at date to be determined later.
Western Carolina's men's and women's cross country teams are still scheduled to travel to Clemson, S.C., this Saturday (Sept. 18) for the Clemson Invitational.
The WCU football team is still scheduled to travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Cats meeting with the Crimson Tide on Saturday (Sept. 18). Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore has said he and other athletic department officials have scheduled a 9:00 am (CT) meeting on Friday to meet with representatives of Alabama Power, law enforcement and other agencies to determine the feasibility of going forward with the 6:00 pm (CT) game.
