CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women’s tennis is scheduled to open the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule Saturday and Sunday at home by hosting the WCU Invitational Sept. 16-17 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. This marks just the second fall tennis event hosted by the WCU women’s tennis program.
Lipscomb, Presbyterian, Tusculum and Young Harris will all travel to Cullowhee for the event. Action begins at 11 am on Saturday and will continue Sunday morning at 10 am.
The event features eight singles flights and four doubles flights. Each group features four student-athletes or four doubles teams and they will play a round-robin style tournament over the two day event.
Doubles will be the first to take to the court on Saturday followed by four singles match-ups. Sunday will begin with back-to-back doubles matches followed by a pair of singles contests on each court.
The 2017-18 Catamounts welcome in a pair of freshmen recruits while the majority of the 2016-17 lineup returns. WCU’s No. 1 and No. 2 two from last season, Strickland and Taranto, will look to lead the 2017-18 squad to new heights as the WCU tennis program continues to set numerous program records.
