CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis opened the fall portion of its 2009-10 season at the Brevard College Mountain Invitational over the weekend.

Senior Amanda Massey defeated Brevard College's Lindsay Hostetter 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the Singles Flight A. Massey lost in the second round to Georgia Southern's Kristi Kegereis 6-2, 6-4.

In the same flight, the Catamount's Izabella Glinska lost to Coastal Carolina's Hill 6-2, 6-2. Glinska moved to the back draw where she fell to UNC Asheville's Leslie Smith 6-4, 5-7 (10-6).

Carolina Lainz defeated Coastal Carolina's Caitlyn Brooksbank, 4-6, 6-5, (10-8) to move to the second round in the Flight B singles. After advancing to the third round thanks to a withdraw, Lainz lost to Britney Cloer from UNC Asheville 6-3, 3-6, 10-2. Also in the same flight, Ainhoa Iglesias defeated Wingate's Hartas 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Allison Beeler of Georgia Southern 6-2, 6-1.

In flight C Singles, Katie Berry fell in the first round 7-5, 6-1 to Sara Douglas of Brevard and then lost in the back draw as well.

Massey and Iglesias defeated WVSU's Russell and Acosta 8-5 in the first round of the A Flight Doubles before falling to Leslie Cavanaugh and Leslie Smith of UNC Asheville 8-3.

In Flight B of Doubles Glinska and Lainz defeated Wingate's Ferguson and Stasikelis 8-6 in the first round and Nicole Shon and Sarah  Brinkley of UNC Asheville 8-5 in the second round. The duo lost to Beeler and Ashley Hungerford of Georgia Southern, 8-0, in the semi-finals.
