CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis is scheduled to open the fall portion of their 2016-17 schedule Saturday and Sunday at home by hosting the WNC Mountain Challenge Sept. 10-11 at the Catamount Athletic Complex. This marks the first fall tennis event hosted by the WCU women's tennis program.
Mountain-rival UNC Asheville along with USC Upstate and Kennesaw State will all travel to Cullowhee for the event. Action begins at 11:30 am on Saturday and will continue Sunday morning at 9 am.
The event features eight singles flights and four doubles flights. Each group features student-athletes from all four institutions and they will play a round-robin style tournament over the two day event.
Doubles will be the first to take to the court on Saturday with WCU's teams facing off against USC Upstate's pairings and UNC taking on Kennesaw State.
The 2016-17 Catamounts are a young squad that features just two upperclassmen in juniors Elizabeth Ansari and Montse Mesalles but the 2016 recruiting class is arguably the most decorated class in program history with three freshmen who all ranked among the top five recruits out of their respective states according to TennisRecruiting.net.
