Spartanburg, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced today that Western Carolina's Shannon Zalinski was tabbed the women's tennis Player of the Week. This is the first time a Catamount women's tennis player has received this honor.

Zalinski, a junior from Greer, S.C., currently holds a perfect record this season in singles play. She picked up three wins this week, in both the fifth and sixth spots, and helped lead WCU to a victory over Presbyterian College. She defeated Presbyterian's Anne Gilmore, 6-1, 6-3, Coastal Carolina's Pettra Jantti, by default after being up 5-4 in the first set, and East Tennessee State's Tatiana Arriaran, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Zalinski and her doubles partner, Megan Bechtold, took two games from the #45-ranked doubles team of Medina Bajrambasic and Marie Matrka from Coastal Carolina, before falling 8-2.

Western Carolina heads to Wofford College Wednesday, March 26, to take on the Lady Terriers at 3:00 pm, before returning home to host the Eagles of Georgia Southern on Saturday, March 29, at Noon.
