CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The women's tennis team will travel to Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday to face Samford, followed by a match against Chattanooga on Sunday. Both matches will begin at noon.
"These matches are going to be solid conference matches," said head coach Chris Wollett. "They're really going to show us where we stand within the SoCon."
The Catamounts lost 7-0 in their first conference match against UNCG on Sunday, Feb. 24.
WCU entered singles play with five freshmen and only one senior, and failed to pick up more than three points in a set.
The Spartans' Niltooli Wilkins defeated the Catamounts' No. 1 player - Stacia Kissell - 6-3, 6-1, while Dilara Yurtkuran downed Karen Jiménezat the No. 2 spot, 6-3, in both sets.
Sara Ruiz and Nicole Nielly dropped the No. 3 and No. 4 matches, with Shannon Bettiol and Erin Maguirelosing at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.
UNCG also won two of the three doubles matches, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Samford will enter Saturday's match coming off a 1-6 loss against Mississippi State, while Chattanooga is coming off a 7-0 victory over Jacksonville State.
