CULLOWHEE, N.C. -
Western Carolina women's tennis continues on its seven-match road swing with two matches this weekend away from Cullowhee. The Catamounts travel to Greenville, N.C., for a non-conference match with directional-rival East Carolina before starting Southern Conference play against UNCG.
WCU is coming off a season-opening win at Presbyterian on Feb. 10 in which the Catamounts won 5-2 over the Blue Hose. The first three scheduled matches of the season were all canceled due to inclement weather in Cullowhee.
East Carolina is currently 4-2 on the season with a match against Gardner-Webb prior to playing the Catamounts on Saturday. ECU and WCU face off at 3:00 p.m. inside the ECU Indoor Tennis Facility. The match was moved indoors due to rain in the Greenville area. Both teams met a season ago at a tournament hosted by Gardner-Webb University with the Lady Pirates coming out on top, 5-1.
UNCG comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record, having won its last two over Campbell and Wake Forest. Its two losses were at North Carolina State (L, 7-0) and North Carolina (L, 7-0). The Spartans downed the Catamounts in 2012 by a score of 7-0 in Cullowhee.
