Spartanburg, S.C. -
Stacia Kissell finished second in the Gold draw as the Western Carolina women's tennis team wrapped up its nonchampionship season with the Wofford Terrier Invite.
"I'm very pleased with the progress we've made this fall," said head coach Michaela Kissell-Eddins. "From the first tournament to the last we made significant strides to getting ready for the spring. As a group we've become better doubles players and have been incorporating more strategy into our singles games as well."
Kissell received a bye in the opening round, but followed with a straight set win, 6-0, 6-0, over Lucie Payrat of Mercer in her semifinal match. Kissell lost in the finals of the Gold draw, 6-4, 6-1, to Paola Garrido of Georgia Southern.
"Stacia fought very hard to make it into the top flight singles final and it was great to have a Catamount competing for the title on the last day of the tournament," Kissell-Eddins added.
In the Black draw, Nicole Nielly went 0-2 with loses to Stephi Woods of Georgia Southern, 6-4, 6-4, and to Amryn Soldier of UNC Asheville, 1-6, 6-1, 10-8.
In the Wofford draw, Sara Ruiz notched an opening round win, 6-2, 6-2, over Teodora Stancia of Gardner-Webb, but was unable to complete her semifinal match against Roxy Bartz of Mercer because of an injury.
Erin Maguire started off with a 7-6, 2-6, 10-7 win over Amanda Berfani of Mercer in the SoCon draw, but suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss at the hands of Taylor Carlson of Wofford in the semifinals match. Maguire also dropped her consolation match 6-1, 6-1 to Caitlin Kitchen of Georgia Southern.
Katie Roslonowski dropped three singles matches, 6-4, 6-4 to Caroline Sherrer of UNC Asheville, 6-1, 6-4 to Natalie Franklin of Mercer and 6-3, 6-2 to Mary Walker Mixon of Gardner-Webb in the College draw.
