Columbia, S.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team traveled to Columbia, S.C., over the weekend to participate in the Southern Intercollegiate Women's Fall Championships, hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Lady Catamounts fared well in singles action among a field of nine schools.
In the A2 Singles Draw, Kristen Munn went 2-2 to finish eighth in her bracket, while teammate Megan Bechtold went 1-3 to finish 14th in the bracket.
In B1 Singles Draw, Shannon Zalinski finished 2-1 as did Erin Johnson. The two finished in 13th and 14th place in the bracket. Kristen Cotton finished 0-2 in the same bracket.
In the B2 Draw, freshman Katie VanEwyk was the winner of the consolation match in the bracket, finishing with a 2-1 record for fifth place.
In doubles action, the team of Zalinski and Bechtold finished 1-2 in the A1 Draw, while Johnson and VanEwyk placed fourth in the A2 bracket, winning 8-5 in the first match and losing the second 8-1. Munn and Cotton also finished 1-1, beating App State's Goode and Moore, 8-4, but falling to USC's Kenoyer and George, 8-0.
The Lady Catamounts have completed their fall tournament schedule and will resume play in the spring as they face Gardner-Webb on Feb. 15 to begin their spring schedule.
