Columbia, S.C. - Western Carolina's Shannon Zalinski defeated Megan Turner of Wofford (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) as the Lady Catamounts finished day one of the Southern Intercollegiate in Columbia, S.C.

Zalinski later fell to Gene Holman of Furman (6-4, 7-5). Kristin Munn fell to Lynn-Yin Tan of South Carolina (6-1, 6-1) and Emma Kidd of Coastal Carolina (6-1, 6-0). Erin Johnson fell to Magda Wojdylo of South Carolina 6-0 and 6-0. Emmy King lost to Richele LeSaldo of Clemson by scores of 6-2, and 6-0 and later to Caroline Bentley of Furman 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the singles match for Western was Kristen Cotton who fell to Ashely Bowen of Clemson 6-2, 6-1 and had a bye for the second round.

In doubles action Fitzpatrick and Zalinski fell to Jennifer Radman and Tamara Sutton of South Carolina 8-2 while King and Munn fell to Audry George and Catherine Brown (USC) 8-1. Cotton and Johnson fell to Cochran and Hagood of Furman with a score of 8-1.
