Western Carolina Women's Tennis Win Three Titles in ETSU Tourney

ETSU Fall Tournament Results

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Western Carolina women's tennis won four titles at the East Tennessee Fall Tournament over the weekend. The Catamounts won two doubles titles and one singles title.

"I think this was a great start for the first tournament of the year," said Head Coach Jan Stubbs. "The players fought hard in their matches, never giving up, and the results showed that."

Senior Trish Hanson and sophomore Tessie Salame entered the tournament as defending champions and retained their title, winning in Gold Doubles. The duo defeated East Tennessee's tandem of Olya Batsula and Tara Sheets 9-8 for the title.

Senior Susanna Sjokvist and Emily Turke took the title in the Brown Bracket. The Catamount doubles team defeated Radford's Alexandra Spector and Alexandra McGuire 8-4 in the finals.

Western Carolina's Mariona Jane and Amanda Massey reached the consolation bracket finals of the Orange Bracket before falling to Radford's Ashton Downs and Mirna Matic 8-4.

The Catamounts also captured one singles titles. Western Carolina won the Blue Bracket and picked up a second and third place finish.

Salame went three sets in her first two matches of the Blue Bracket to reach the finals against The Buc's Sheets. She won over the Sheets 6-4, 6-0 to win the title.

 

 

Massey lost in the finals of the Yellow Bracket to Georgia Southern's Christine Caforio 6-3,6-4. Jane placed third in the Black Bracket.
