Johnson City, Tenn. - Two Western Carolina women's tennis players competed in the finals of the ETSU Fall Collegiate.

Freshman Kristin Cotton defeated Erin Fusting (Virginia Intermont) 6-0, 6-0 and Lynnea McElreath (Lees McRae) 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. There she took Ellena Iltcheva (Gardner-Webb) 6-0, 6-0 and Melissa Coulter of Carson-Newman (6-0, 6-2) to win flight six. Senior Emmy King defeated Denise Knight (King) 6-0, 6-0 and Lorielle Ferlita (Gardner-Webb) 6-0, 6-4. She later fell to Laura Dickinson (Radford), 6-2, 6-4 in the flight five finals.

Sophomore Kristen Munn defeated Anita Obando (Tennessee Tech) 6-3, 6-4 in her first round of flight one. She later fell to Ana Skafar (Lees McRae) 6-3, 6-1. Senior Shelby Fitzpatrick fell to Jessica Irey (ETSU) 6-4, 6-2 in her first round. Sophomore Shannon Zalinski had a bye in the first round, then fell to Karmelina Rivera (Tennessee Tech) 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Erin Johnson advanced to the semifinals of flight three. Johnson had a bye in the first round, defeated Melissa DeJong (Gardner-Webb) 6-2, 7-6. She later fell to Maja Russinova (Tennessee Tech) 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action Fitzpatrick and Zalinski defeated Marcelina Gogol and Kago Phatshwane (Virginia Intermont) 8-3 and later fell to Ana Marie Cibils and Lupita Hernandez (Tennessee Tech) 8-1 in the semifinals. King and Munn defeated Irey and Amy Villanicencio (ETSU) 8-6. They advanced to the finals after defeating Ferlita and Molly Hoeffner (Gardner-Webb) 8-5 and later fell to Rivera and Russinova (Tennessee Tech) 8-5. The duo of Cotton and Johnson defeated Erin Hall and Esther Mbugua (Virginia Intermont) 8-2 and Andera Seliski and Ashley West (UNCA) 8-1 to advance to the semifinals. They dropped and 8-3 match to Obando and Lucian Tamburim (Tennessee Tech).

WCU will travel to UNC Asheville, Thursday, September 27. Game time set for 2:00 pm
