Johnson City, Tenn. - Rainy conditions put a damper on play at the East Tennessee State Tennis Invitational over the weekend, but not before junior Erin Johnson was named the champion of the C bracket, defeating teammate Kristin Cotton, 7-6(5), 6-3. Johnson defeated four opponents en route to her victory in the final round.
The Lady Catamounts managed to get all of their matches in on Friday, but rain would force Saturday's matches to be postponed until Sunday. Although conditions weren't much better on Sunday, most of the team was able to finish their play.
The doubles team of Kristin Cotton and Kristin Munn won in the semifinals, defeating Carson-Newman's Melissa Coulter and Kristie Kirkland, 8-4. The two were unable to play their final match due to rain on Sunday. Katie Van Ewyk and Erin Johnson were winning their doubles match against CN's Millie Dunn and Olga Petrovic, 7-4, before rain set in and the match was called.
The Lady Catamounts have a long break until November 1-3 when they travel to Columbia, S.C., for the Southern Collegiate Championships, which will be the team's last tournament until play resumes in February.
