Johnson City, Tenn. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team wrapped up their play at the East Tennessee State Fall Invitational today, with doubles partners Kristin Cotton and Katie VanEwyk coming out as champions of the doubles "C" bracket. They combined to defeat Kirkland and Caprio of Carson-Newman, 8-5, in the title match.

Also in doubles action, Kristin Munn and Erin Johnson lost to Bolivar and Nevarez of Tusculum, 8-2, and finished fourth overall in the women's "B" bracket.

In singles play, Munn lost to Ziblkowska of ETSU, 6-7(4), 5-7. She then defeated Phatshwane of Virginia Intermont in the consolation match, 6-2, 6-3, to finish third overall in her draw. Johnson defeated Mora of TC, 6-2, 6-3, in the consolation bracket, but then fell to McFarland of Mars Hill in the final match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-7(8).

Shannon Zalinski won her match over Villavicencio by default, but then lost to Carson-Newman's Caprio, 4-6, 7-6(5), 11-13 (in a 10-point tie-breaker). Wraping up singles action, VanEwyk was victorious over Tusculum's Stephens, 6-1, 6-2. She then lost to ETSU's Aldea in the championship match, 3-6, 6-4, 0-6.

The Catamounts return to action October 3-5 at the Wolfpack Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.
