The Western Carolina women's tennis team opened the fall schedule with the Elon Fall Tennis Invitational over the weekend with Stacia Kissell picking up a third place finish in the A-1 singles flight.
In the A-1 singles flight, Kissell advanced to the semifinals. Kissell won her opening match over Jordan Johnston of Elon, 6-3, 6-4, then defeated Ericka Rivero 6-2, 6-3 before falling to Isabel von Stryk from USC Upstate 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Kissell ended with a third place finish.
In the A-2 singles flight, Nicole Nielly rebound after an opening round loss to Bryn Khoury from Elon, 6-1, 6-2, to reel off a 6-1, 6-2 win over Talia Rojas of USC Upstate.
In the A-3 singles flight, Shannon Bettiol won her opening match 6-4, 6-4 over Ekin Gunaysu from Winthrop, but fell in the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-1 to Giula Andreazza from ETSU. Erin Maguire also won her opening round match in the B-1 singles flight, 6-3, 6-1 over Tamara Jeremic from North Carolina Central, but she too fell in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 6-2 to Salma Dahbi from East Tennessee State.
