BURLINGTON, NC - Sixth-seeded Elon topped 11th-seeded Western Carolina 5-0 in the first round of the 2009 Southern Conference Tennis Championship today at the Burlington Tennis Center in Burlington, NC.

Elon picked up the doubles point with wins at the #2 and #3 positions. Hayley Wahl picked up the first singles win for the Phoenix, 6-0, 6-0 over Lane Arnold at #5. Whitney Butcher (#6), Anna Milian (#1) and Paige Kensrue (#2) rounded out the singles wins for Elon.
