CHARLESTON, SC - Seventh-seeded UNC Greensboro eliminated tenth seeded Western Carolina 4-1, in the first round of the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship at Earle Tennis Center on the campus of The Citadel this morning.

UNC Greensboro won the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2 doubles. UNCG won the first doubles with Kristin Cotton and Katie VanEwyk taking #3 doubles 8-4, giving them a 5-1 record as a pair. In a hard-fought match, Carlin Kannan and Amanda Eutzler defeated Rocio Perez and Erin Johnson from Western Carolina 9-7 at #2.

In singles action, WCU's Shannon Zalinski topped Emily Tanner 6-4, 6-0 for the Catamounts' lone point of the match. Kannan picked up a win at #1 6-1, 6-2 over Perez with Lindsey Peel topping Kristin Munn 6-2, 6-3 at the second spot. Lourdes Moran clinched the win for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Johnson.

The Cats finish out their season 6-13 overall and 1-8 in conference action.
