Cullowhee, N.C. - The Chattanooga Lady Mocs handed the Western Carolina women's tennis team a 7-0 loss Thursday as the Catamounts closed out their regular-season at the Reid Gym Courts. The Cats fall to 5-14 overall and 0-10 in the Southern Conference, while UTC improves to 10-11, 6-4.

The match marked the final one for three seniors in Cullowhee. Erin Johnson, Kristin Munn and Rocio Perez all closed out their careers at WCU and will be competing in their final SoCon tournament next week. All three have been an integral part of the Lady Catamount tennis program both on and off the courts. They each excelled academically and were all members of the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team.

Chattanooga swept through doubles play to gain the first point of the match. Catherine Allen and Cynthia Oulevay defeated WCU's Perez and Johnson, 8-4, as did Saskia van Velze and Charlotte Goude over Kristin Cotton and Katie VanEwyk. Elysa Montgomery and Munn fell 8-3 at the hands of Lucie Barney and Bethany Everett.

In singles action, the Mocs completed the shutout by defeating the Cats all in straight sets. VanEwyk fought hard to come back in her second set versus Everett, but lost 6-0, 7-5.

The Catamounts are now in preparations for the Southern Conference tournament, which begins April 22 in Charleston, S.C., and runs through April 25.
