Women's Tennis Falls in Regular Season Finale at Elon

WCU ended its regular season with a loss at Elon Saturday.

Elon, N.C. - Western Carolina loses 7-0 to Elon in the last match of the 2014 campaign, draws Appalachian State in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament at the Champions Club in Chattanooga Tennessee.

At the No. 1 doubles match, WCU's Stacia Kissell and Shannon Bettiol lost, 8-1 to Jordan Johnston and Barbora Lazarova. The Phoenix claimed the doubles win with a victory at the No. 3 match as Bryn Khoury and Taylor Casey defeated Sara Ruiz Pajares and Erin Maguire, 8-1.

At the No. 2 doubles slot, the Catamounts' Nicole Nielly and Megan McLinden fell to Frida Jansaker and Maria Camara Ruiz.

In singles competition at the No. 3 match, McLinden fell to Khoury in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 2 match, Jansaker defeated Bettiol, 6-0, 6-1.

Elon (12-8, 6-3) clinched the match over Western Carolina (2-17-1, 0-9) at the No. 4 singles match as Lazarova defeated Ruiz Pajares, 6-3, 6-2.

WCU's Nielly dropped the No. 5 matchup to Camara Ruiz, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 6 spot, Maguire fell to Tolley Rice in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

No. 1 seed match-up, Kissell lost in three sets, 6-4, 7-6, (7-4) to Johnston.

The Catamounts are slotted at the No. 10 seed in the Conference tournament and will play the No. 7 seed, Appalachian State at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16.
