Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team claimed its first Southern Conference victory of the season against UNC Greensboro Saturday, defeating the Spartans 5-2. Western is now 6-11, 1-7 SoCon.

Western took two of three doubles matches for the first point of the match. Rocio Perez and Erin Johnson beat Carlin Kannan and Amanda Eutzler, 8-4, and Kristin Cotton and Katie VanEwyk shut out Lourdes Moran and Emily Tanner, 8-0.

In the number two position, Kristin Munn defeated Lindsey Peel in the third set, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5). Cotton beat Eutzler, also in a third set, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Johnson and Shannon Zalinski both won their matches in straight sets and Perez and Megan Bechtold both lost to their opponents in the third set.

The Catamounts host Davidson Sunday, April 13, at 2 pm in WCU's final regular-season match before heading to Charleston, S.C., for the conference championship April 16.
