Greensboro, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro women's tennis team avenged last year's loss to Southern Conference rival Western Carolina with a 6-1 victory over the Catamounts Saturday afternoon in Greensboro. WCU is now 5-11 overall and 0-8 in the SoCon, while the Spartans improve to 3-10, 2-3.
UNCG took two of the three doubles matches to earn the double's point. Lindsey Peel and Carlin Kannan teamed up to defeat Rocio Perez and Kristin Munn 8-2 at No. 1, while Kate LaCoste and Lourdes Moran defeated April Yount and Elysa Montgomery 8-1 at No. 3. Western Carolina's Kristin Cotton and Katie VanEwyk picked up an 8-4 win over Sophie Rychlik and Emily Wade at No. 2.
Western picked up its lone point as Kristin Munn defeated Carlin Kannan, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2 in singles action. UNCG claimed the other five points of the match for the win during singles play.
The Catamounts will travel to Elon to take on the Phoenix on Sunday, April 4 at 1:00 pm.
