Cullowhee, N.C. - After surrendering all three doubles matches to UNC Asheville, the Western Carolina women's tennis team came back to take five of their six singles matches to defeat the Bulldogs, 5-2. The win improves WCU's overall record to 5-7, while UNCA drops to 9-4 overall.

WCU's number one duo Erin Johnson and Rocio Perez came close versus Asheville's Natasha Lucki and Emily Acker-Estes, but fell just short at 9-7 and the Bulldogs won the point with wins in the number two and three spots as well.

The Catamounts, however, rebounded to steamroll their way to a win, claiming victories in the first through fifth singles positions. Johnson played her match into a super tie-breaker after winning the first set 6-2, but giving up the second 6-7(7). In the third and deciding set, Johnson outlasted Rachel Rhoney 13-11 for the win. In the top singles position, Perez picked up her second straight win with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Lucki.

The Catamounts continue their home stand Wednesday, Mar. 24, as they take on Furman in Southern Conference action at 3:00 pm.
