Davidson, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's tennis team dropped their Southern Conference match with Davidson on Sunday, 7-0. The Catamounts (1-6, 0-4 SoCon) have lost six consecutive matches, while the Wildcats improved to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Conference.

WCU lost all three doubles matches and the one doubles point awarded. Emily Turke and Izabella Glinksa dropped their three-spot doubles match, 8-1, to Davidson's Ali Gores and Samantha Galainena to fall in the doubles point. Karen Jiménez Sarmiento and Katie Barry lost their doubles match 8-0 to the Wildcats' Alison Rauh and Stephani Synn. In the number one doubles spot, Davidson's Virginia Berry and Teresa Wang defeated Amanda Massey and Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz, 8-2.

The Catamounts fell in all six singles matches on Sunday.

Jiménez Sarmiento battled Davidson's Gores to a three-set match, but fell 2-6 in set one before forcing a tie-breaker with a 6-3 victory. The freshman dropped the tie-break 5-10.

Iglesias Díaz fell 4-6, 1-6 to Davidson's Ruah, while Glinska dropped her match in straight sets to Wang 1-6, 3-6. Katie Barry (0-6, 1-6 lost to Katharine Dicconson) and Emily Turke (lost 2-6, 0-6 to Galainena) both dropped their matches in straight-sets. Massey, a senior on the Catamount squad, dropped her match to Davidson's Berry, 1-6, 2-6.

 

 

Western Carolina will resume non-conference action on Wednesday at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Catamounts will host UNC Asheville at 2:00 p.m. before traveling to Charlotte on Friday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m.
