Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina dropped a 4-0 decision to Longwood University on Monday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The match was not fully completed due to travel constraints for the Lancers.

Western Carolina (1-4) was ahead in the second set of all three point matches that were not finished. The win gave Longwood University (5-4) their fifth win of the season. Amanda Massey, Ainhoa Iglesias Díaz and Karen Jiménez Sarmiento were playing when the match was retired.

Freshman Carolina Lainez dropped her match to Zsofia Jakab, 0-6, 1-6. Izabella Glinska took five games in total, but fell to Marta Pinyol, 3-6, 2-6. Emily Turke dropped her match, 1-6,1-6, in the six spot to Hannah Hill.

The Lancers took the doubles point with a decisive 8-4 victory as the combination of Longwood's Hannah Hill and Laura Simon defeated Turke and Glinksa. Western Carolina won the number one doubles spot, 8-6, as Massey/Iglesias Díaz defated Pinyol/Jakkab.

Lainez and Jiménez Sarmiento fell ,8-4, to Mason Davis and Allie Shulman in the second doubles match.

The Catamounts begin a three-match road trip with a stop to Gardner-Webb on Thursday. The match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start in Boiling Springs, N.C.
