After narrowly dropping the doubles point, Western Carolina rallied to win four of the six singles matches to nip the Kennesaw State Owls, 4-3, Saturday morning at the Bridge Mill Tennis Complex.
Kennesaw State (0-8) took its first double point of the season, winning at No. 1 and No. 3. WCU's Susanna Sjokvist and Mariona Trilla Jane earned the lone doubles victory, winning 8-5 at No. 2.
In singles competition, the Catamounts claimed victory at number one and two, as well as four and five to win the match. Junior Trish Hanson defeated KSU's Mercedes Cobos, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, with freshman Tessie Salame rallying from down one set (5-7) to win back-to-back sets of 6-2. At No.4, freshman Amanda Massey defeated the Owls' Jeni Thomas, 6-2, 6-2, with Trilla Jane claiming the fifth flight, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the win.
WCU stays in the state of Georgia to face the Mercer Bears on Sunday before heading to Hilton Head, S.C., in tournament play.
